Did you know that the old Gospel Assembly Church at 6th and Clinton was a fire station over 100 years ago? Actually there were two Number 10’s. The first one was the Num. 10 for a year in 1894 but was not the one we were in. The second one was the actual “Old Fire Station” where we went to church all those years. (It may take a while to load so just give it some time.)

This one is across the street from the corner on 6th Avenue. Remember where the Highland Park Bakery was? It is just south of there. I think it was an attorney’s office or something when we were there. Notice on the front it says: HIGHLAND PARK FIRE STATION

The one below left  is the one we were in. The upstairs rooms where we used to have the printing room, lunchroom, nursery and etc… was the dormitories for the firemen. The downstairs part where the main sanctuary was used to be a barn where the horses and fire wagons were kept.

This was the way it looked when we had church there in the 1970’s…….

The main entrance where we used to hang our coats was added on at a later date. There is a strange story about how I came upon these facts and photos if anyone is interested.  Just email me.

Hope you like this little bit of history in the news…
