Remember and Obey Them Who Have the Rule Study

KJV - Hebrews 13:7Remember (be mindful) them which have the rule (leadership as in an official, authority, chief, governor, judge) over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith (persuasion, credence or credibility, moral conviction and especially reliance upon CHRIST for salvation;) follow, considering the end of their conversation (behavior).

Remember - mnemoneuo, mnay-mon-yoo'-o, Greek 3421; from a derivative of Greek 3420 (mneme); to exercise memory, i.e. recollect; by implication to punish; also to rehearse :- make mention, be mindful, remember.

Rule - hegeomai, hayg-eh'-omhee, Greek 2233; middle of a (presumed) strengthened form of Greek 71 (ago); to lead, i.e. command (with official authority); figurative to deem, i.e. consider :- account, (be) chief, count, esteem, governor, judge, have the rule over, suppose, think.

faith - pistis, pis'-tis, Greek 4102; from Greek 3982 (peitho); persuasion, i.e. credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstract constancy in such profession; by extensive the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself :- assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.

My interpretation according to the original language.

Hebrews 13:7 –Be mindful of them who are your leaders, (male or female) who have spoken unto you the word of God: and follow them as long as they are credible and have good morals and especially if they rely upon CHRIST for salvation. You should also consider their behavior.

So the key here would be to check out their lives and make sure they are good moral followers of Christ themselves and that they are not pointing you to themselves for salvation but only if they rely upon Christ for salvation.

Hebrews 13:17 - Obey (convince, pacify, conciliate, assent, rely, agree, assure, believe, have confidence in, etc…) them that have the rule (leadership as in an official, authority, chief, governor, judge) over you, and submit (to surrender) yourselves: for they watch for your souls, (the physical body only here) as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Obey - peitho, pi'-tho, Greek 3982; a primary verb; to convince (by argument, true or false); by analogy to pacify or conciliate (by other fair means); reflexive or passive to assent (to evidence or authority), to rely (by inward certainty) :- agree, assure, believe, have confidence, be (wax) confident, make friend, obey, persuade, trust, yield.

Submit - hupeiko, hoop-i'-ko, Greek 5226; from Greek 5259 (hupo) and eiko (to yield, be "weak"); to surrender :- submit self.

Souls - psuche, psoo-khay', Greek 5590; from Greek 5594 (psucho); breath, i.e. (by implication) spirit, abstract or concrete (the animal sentient principle only); thus distinguished on the one hand from Greek 4151 NOT(pneuma), which is the rational and immortal soul; and on the other from Greek 2222 NOT(zoe), which is mere vitality, even of plants:  these terms thus exactly correspond respectively to the Hebrew Hebrew 5315 (nephesh), Hebrew 7307 (ruwach) and Hebrew 2416 (chay)) :- heart (+ -ily), life, mind, soul, + us, + you.

My interpretation according to the original language.

Hebrews 13:17 - Agree with, believe and have confidence in your leaders (male or female) and surrender to them as long as they live right and you are sure in your spirit that they watch for your souls. They must give account for the way they lead you and you should assent and cooperate so that it is not such a burden to them as that would not be profitable to you.

The key here is to agree and have confidence in these leaders only if you see evidence of their authority by an inward certainty of their faith. Not just because they tell you God sent them. We have to make some good judgments here.
